DATE: February 11
TEACHER: Kevin Lacroix
THEME: Behind The Curtain
MEDITATION: What is distraction telling you?
INTERACTIVE: Here, There, and Everywhere
Kevin: John Welwood, American transpersonal psychologist and Buddhist teacher, died this past month. While his writings and talks on love and relationship have made the deepest impression on me, he might be best known for coining the term spiritual bypassing: ‘using spiritual ideas and practices to sidestep personal, emotional ‘unfinished business,’ to shore up a shaky sense of self, or to belittle basic needs, feelings, and developmental tasks.’ Tonight, we will lovingly peer into our sensory experience for clues as to what ulterior motives might be influencing how and why we meditate. Off the cushion, we’ll explore, by way of journaling, how and where these motives might be expressing themselves in our daily lives, and how we might use our practice to detect, elucidate, and guide us towards what is needed.
