Earth-Body, Vast Psyche

TEACHER: Kalen Colson
THEME: Earth-Body, Vast Psyche

Karen: Where do our bodies come from? (Think way back) And where is the seat of consciousness…really? This over-culture spins the narrative that we’re highly distinguished units with atomized bodies and psyches. Almost as if a line from a Sharpie marker defines the boundary between us and the rest of the world. (Thank you, Descartes!) Imagine for a moment that our existence is more like watercolors, better represented by permeability. Deep ecology, ancient religions, and quantum science all point to the lived experiences of permeability, porousness and interconnection between “individuals” and the world – think nondualism in Buddhist speak. What if we re-membered our bodies as of the earth and re-imagined our psyches to be as vast as the cosmos? How would that alter our consciousness? Our perspectives? Our stewardship of self, other and the lands we inhabit? If our bodies are Earth-bodies and our psyches are vast, how might that change how we stand here? Or sit. Let’s find out.
