Diverse and/not Disabled
Joss: I’ve been thinking about how difference becomes stigmatized, how uniqueness becomes an exclusion, and how the world we’re in weighs heavily on our experiences of our own psychology. I’m borrowing a page from disability studies’ distinction between an impairment (which are the variations and limits we have), and a disability (which is a consequential social- construction that arises as a result of our needs going unmet). To be very clear, not every neurodivergence is even an impairment, but the experiences of neurodivergent people are often fraught with pathology and stigma. In this practice, we’ll see if we might momentarily “reset the scales” and imagine a world of dignity for ourselves in which we might dwell.
