Hope for Tomorrow, Today

Luke: When I think about this month’s theme I’m reminded of my time in the hospital following my spinal cord injury. A friend came to visit me and brought an article to share about some medical studies that were underway touting advancements in spinal cord research. The articles boasted a 4 year timeline to develop a “cure” for spinal cord injury. Innocently, he taped the article to one of the walls of my shared room. News of a cure pulled me from the depths of hopelessness into the opposite realm of hope-full. The article also provoked an extra paralyzing experience, drawing me from my present awareness to a fixation on the future. Together, let’s drop in and explore these realms of past, present, and future combined with the often associated feelings of hope.
