The Spider and the Self

Steph: As naturally social creatures, we are born into relationships. First, with our primary caregivers, our immediate and extended family, our neighbors, friends, community, and so on. The older we get, the larger that web of relationships also gets, and it only continues to grow throughout our lifetime. We sit like the spider at the centre of it all, observing, and participating in a world of our own making. And sometimes like the spider, we have to tear it all down and rebuild our web of connections. Regardless of how many webs we have built over our lifetime, or how big or how small our personal webs may be, what remains at the centre of it all is us- our relationship and connection to self. In tonight’s meditation, we will explore that relationship, by sitting still in the centre of our own web, watching and waiting to observe what lands in our web, how we in turn experience ourselves, and what is to be done with all that tugs at these threads connected to our being.
