TEACHER: Oliver Rabba
THEME: Look Who’s Thinking
Oliver: Here’s a mindf*ck for you: nothing’s real. Not really anyway. Your brain’s basically making it all up. Your eyes take in light beams, your ears pick up air vibrations, skin sensors detect pressure and temperature… It’s the squishy ball in your skull that decides it has meaning. It calls the collection of lines and shadows “chair”, and the sudden burst of air pressure “dog bark”. Then it pulls from the archives and generates its own sound and image data, conventionally known as “thoughts”. Crazy right? Granted, we wouldn’t be able to function in the world if this process wasn’t going on, but how often are we aware of it? And who’s doing the aware-ing? Mindf*ck. I warned you. Anyway, let’s save it for the 20th when we can hop online together to take in pixels and sounds that really feel like community. For real.
